  1. INTERCEPT A BOMBING RAID ON BERLIN
  2.  
  3. On March 18, the Eighth Air Force
  4. launched its heaviest attack in the war
  5. on Berlin, sending over 1,300 bombers
  6. to aid the Russian army's advance from
  7. the east.  JG 7 responded by sending
  8. up 37 Me262s, losing two of these to
  9. defensive bomber fire.  The jets'
  10. tactics seemed almost suicidal, as they
  11. pressed their attacks to point-blank
  12. range.  At least five heavies were
  13. claimed by the jets, while Berlin's flak
  14. claimed another 19 bombers destroyed,
  15. with 16 more so damaged they had to
  16. make emergency landings behind Russian
  17. lines.

  19.                     YOUR MISSION
  20.  
  21. As part of a combined effort between
  22. J.G.7's Me 262 interceptors and the Me
  23. 163s of 1./JG 400, you are to intercept
  24. the stream of B-17s approaching various
  25. targets in Berlin.  Stay in tight formation 
  26. as your flight leader takes your schwarm 
  27. of Komets up from Doberitz airfield, 
  28. climbing to 30,000 feet.  Then level out 
  29. and glide to your vectored interception 
  30. point, hitting the bombers with a head-on 
  31. attack.  Use your SG 500 vertically firing 
  32. rockets to disable a bomber on your first 
  33. pass.  The Me 262s from J.G.7 are approach-
  34. ing the B-17s from the northeast, so be 
  35. aware of their presence as you make sub-
  36. sequent passes at the bombers.
